Welcome to horse whispering country! We are located in the mountains of southwestern Montana. If you look on a map and find Helena, you'll see a large lake called Canyon Ferry Lake. Our cattle drives wind through the Big Belt Mountains just east of Townsend. Our map on the map page shows you the area.

We don't know if you have ever been on a cattle drive. We hope that you haven't and are planning to go on one of our cattle drives this year. We generally have three cattle drives every year. This year (1999) the dates are:

Cattle Drives in 2000 (Call for more information)

The First Thing That Puts Us Above The Rest

Some of the best
down home cookin' in the West...
with lots of it!

You may want to
learn to rope.

Our drives give all riders the opportunity to really move cattle. Many other cattle drives move a few cattle. During our drives, guests move between 400 and 1000 head of cattle. To give each guest the possibility to chase cattle we have a number of mini cattle drives going on within the large cattle drive.

The Second Thing That Puts Us Above The Rest

Most cattle drives offered in the West go across the mountain plains. Our cattle drives go right through the mountains.

The Third Thing That Puts Us Above The Rest

You'll chase those
cows between the
canyon walls

And through the mountain meadows!

Next, we can offer you more than just a cattle drive. Along with the cattle drive, we have educational opportunities, intellectual offerings, and additional entertainment. We offer the guests a chance to learn flyfishing and roping. There are creeks that offer flyfishing opportunities at most camps. We have a Cowboy Poetry night. One evening we have a History Night where we try to share with our guests a glimpse of the Indian, gold mining, ghost town, and natural history of the local area. There is even a Country Dance night and a special Award's Night. Blended in with it all, are evenings of campfire song, trail rides, and laughter.

The Fourth Thing That Puts Us Above The Rest

You'll enjoy
those campfire
songs.

And sometimes herd
those dogies
right through camp!

We are located close to Yellowstone National Park (120 miles) so that you may be able to include a trip there in your itinerary. Virginia City (90 miles), an Old West mining town, is nearby, as is the State museum in Helena (30 miles). You may contact one of individual ranches about spending time before or after the drive if you would like to spend more time riding.

The Fifth Thing That Puts Us Above The Rest

You may want to fish.

Whether it's the camaraderie,
cows, country, campfires, or
cowboys, you will find Montana
High Country Cattle Drives a
delightful experience that you will never forget!

Next, we offer a wagon train ride for those guests who don't want to ride a horse but would like to participate in the cattle drive. Just relax on the trail and join the crew every afternoon at camp.

The Sixth Thing That Puts Us Above The Rest

Get along littl' doggies...

Then, let's get some lunch!

Last, we are the real thing. No made-up cattle drive. We offer one of the few chances to experience one of the fading remnants of the Old West. A real cattle drive.

We pride ourselves that everybody has the opportunity to move cattle. Here you can see riders spread out over the mountain country.

Often we see wildlife along the trail. One day you take a trail ride just to look for elk or deer.

We hope to see you this summer on our cattle drives.
